The Bassano were an italian family of painters active in Venice and in the Veneto region from the early 16th century to the early 17th. The name Bassano was used at first for Jacopo and after him was extended for the entire family. Jacopo’s father, called Francesco, was a painter, also, and he got the nickname¬† ‘dal Ponte’ (from the bridge) because his workshop in Bassano del Grappa was close to the bridge.
