Battle between Christian and Turkish knights
(? 1643-Verona 1702)
Battle between Christian and Turkish Knights
Second half of the 17th century
Oil on canvas, 30.3 x 37.4 inch
It can be clearly connected to Matteo Stom (? 1643-Verona 1702) thanks to a positive confrontation with his style characterised by a fast and vibrant pictorial and figurative mark and by a propensity for scene on a nocturnal setting. He was a successful specialist on this field but, until a couple of years ago, not lot of his works were known, as it can also be noticed in the text that I dedicated to this iconographic theme I Pittori di Battaglie. Dipinti di maestri italiani e stranieri del XVII e XVIII secolo (De Luca ed., Roma 1999, pp. 145 and 500-501).
