beginning of the 19th century
Oil on panel, 33.7 x 32.5 inch

This is a board on which is painted an extraction game known aS Biribi-similar to the Royal Lotto or Royal Game, both of them composed by grids divided into thirty-six squares-that was a gambling game imported from Spain between the end of the 17th-beginning of the 18th century and distinguished at first by a board with thirty-six squares then increased to seventy.

Destined to an aristocratic house, it’s decorated with a rare and sophisticated oil technique. A frame is enclosing the game board, divided into thirsty six numbered and painted squares, also surrounded by twenty-fours triangular boxes on which are indicated the permitted by the guidelines combinations; everything is enclose in a green frame with a black Greek fret, showing other bet possibilities that are favored and incentivized by the propitiatory written on the top “This is the Cuccagna (aboundancy) game more you bet more you win”.
