ANDREA APPIANI
ANDREA APPIANI
(Milan 1754 – 1817)
Female profile turned on the right with her hair tied with a ribbon
Around 1810
Black pencil and red chalk, 11.14 x 8.74 in
The drawing represents a female face turned to the left with idealized features inspired by antique sculptures. It’s masterful and the play of shadows based on the parallels line, more or less thick, of the black chalk testifies the extraordinary drawing talent of Appiani. The figure has a hair style of Imperial taste with a ribbon of classical suggestion running all around the head.
