In this painting can be found many traits typical of his manner, starting from the faces of the characters-for example, the lady in white and pink also appears with an extremely similar dress in other paintings of the same subject-to the objects-like the vase with the “pampas grass” or the statuette with a lifted arm-to the scenic set-the ripple of the carpet in close-up also can be found in other works of the same time. Very interesting is the “meta painting”, that also is hang on the walls of other two Maternal Joy paintings that is a self-citation: it is, indeed, Tutti hanno il loro nido made in the 1870 by Busi and now preserved at the GNAM in Rome.
