PIETRO NOCCHI
(Rome 1783 – Lucca 1854)
Portrait of the marquise Maria Luisa Tucci playing the harp
1808
Oil on canvas, 38.18 x 29.33 in.
Inscription on the harp
As reported by the later inscription on the painting, the portrait represents Maria Luisa Sansedoni, the bride of the marquis Carlo Domenico Tucci, in the prime of her brief life. […] “Tomorrow I’ll end the draft of the portrait of the lady Luisa Sansedoni” Pietro Nocchi wrote to his father Bernardino to update him on the progresses of his activity in Lucca, the hometown of his family, where he moved in the spring of the 1806 for serious healthy reasons.
