The Pool of Bethesda with Jesus healing a paralyzed man
1640-1645
Oil on canvas, 26.77×20.39 inch

The painting is one of the samples of the prolific collaboration between the two artists, happened from 1634 to 1647 in Naples, of fundamental relevance for the maturation of the manners of both.
Its sizes, smaller respect to the average of the sacred theme works of the two authors […] It is known that, the figure painter preferred the sacred scene and, on the meantime, the painter from Bergamo was use to reuse his constituent structures, reworking them in different ways and sizes.

The episode of Jesus healing a paralyzed man takes place by the Gospel by John (John 5, 1-18) close to the Pool of Bethesda, that in this painting stays inside a developed in depth hall. […]
The characters and the small scenes leave no doubts on the interpretation of the episode: even if the Pool of Bethesda was originally described as a building with five porches, in the single hall here there are all the elements, from the invalids, the healing angel, Jesus, the apostles and the disconcert of the bystanders.
